Hello all!

Last night I tried to flash my NEC2500A with the official NEC firmware upgrade at the following link:
http://support.necsam.com/oem/downloads/flashfirmware/readme.asp?ID=3

Everything seems to take okay, but after rebooting my system no longer detects the DVD Drive. Has anyone ever come across this before? Would disconnecting the IDE cable powering up, powering down and reconnecting the IDE possibly fix the issue? Would I be better off using one of the DOS based firmware upgrades?

Thanks in advance!

How about unistall the IDE channel and reboot? If this doesn't help try the DOS flasher, but in that case your bios has to recognize the drive.

if the drive isn't recognized during the DOS boot process, then your drive is probably damaged, may remove any second drive at the same IDE channel and report back the results

It gets more interesting. After my original post, I got home from work and lo and behold the drive was showing up again. It wasn't before I left, so I have no idea what kicked it in. I tried running DVD Decrypter and it ran for a bit and then totally froze my system up. I rebooted, and the DVD drive is gone again. In addition, everytime I try to open My Computer or navigate to my my computer through win explorer, the system begins clocking for several minutes. I don't think playing with the IDE cables will help as it seems like something is seriously screwed up with my configuration since the upgrade, the question is what? If I can get the blasted thing to show up again, I will try uninstalling and reinstalling the device. If all else fails I may just completely re-image my system, unless someone has a better idea.

Check the cables, IDE and power.

Okay, I swapped my 2 drives and made the Nec2500A the Master and the other the slave. It has been running fine ever since. In fact it even seems to be running faster and better than ever, perhaps due to the new firmware. I haven't had any issues with the other drive disappearing after making it the slave either. Not sure what happened, but I appreciate the help and suggestions.
