I read through quite a few posts and found some good information regarding installing an IDE Hard Drive into the PS2. I've seen my question asked but haven't yet seen anyone answer it yet. What I want to do is install a Hard Drive into my PS2, probably going with the 120GB Maxtor as suggested by a lot of users. First, I just want to load the new Socom II Maps that are being released onto this Hard drive and play online. Do I have to have the official Sony 40gig HD to do this? It seems getting past the DNAS should be no problem, since I believe it looks to your memory cards for this information and I have the official Socom II DVD in my PS2. So my question is, does anyone know if you can use a HDD other than the official Sony one to play the New Socom II maps being released? Has anyone had any problems loading the new maps onto a non Sony 40gig Hard drive? Is there any special steps in doing this besides getting the HDD installed and formatted properly? Just to clarify, I don't want to copy games to the HDD and play them. I own my Socom II disc. I just want Socom to recognize the NON Sony HDD and access those new maps, so I can play them online.
