I hope anyone can help me with this. If you take a look at the booktype settings in dvdinfopro, you may choose between set temporary and set default. Default should mean that the settings are written to the flash memory of my nec2500a drive and set temporary means,,,,, I have no clue.. What does the temp button do? I my case it's in booktype DVD-rom for all the media. (the default settings are +rom) I use the temp settings. (and the temp settings are -rom) However nero just burns ev'rything with booktype +rom. how come...? The help functions does not give much clearance also, see below..

DVD+R or DVD-ROM
These radio buttons are mutually-exclusive so choosing one, will un-select the other. Each corresponds to the book type setting for the DVD+R or DVD-ROM media.

Set Temp R
This button will set the temporary mode for book-type when the drive writes to DVD+R media. The change is sent to the drive immediately and verified by re-reading the settings from the drive and displaying it in the Current view area.

Set Default R
This button will set the default Flash mode for book-type when the drive writes to DVD+RDL media. The change is sent to the drive immediately and verified by re-reading the settings from the drive and displaying it in the Current view area.

Set temp changes the book type for the drive but it is not permenant and next time you reboot the settings will revert back to the default settings.
Set Default will always be the mode that the drive defaults to, unless it is changed by default or temp settings.

Hi Flash,
I do not want to set the drive to booktype -rom permanently, but only if needed. So I think that my settings are okay. (they are set to: temp dvd+r to booktype -rom and default +rom to +rom)
Still nero burns +rom to +rom. Even with the temp settings active in dvdinfopro. How can I let Nero burn to booktype -rom only if I wish to.
Another small question, the temp settings, are they flashed into the flash rom of the drive or are they stored somewhere else , so that I don't have to take in account that I don't make use of this feature to often because the flashrom has only a limited time you may flash it...

Hello,

The options you see are not generic across all drives, the bitsetting window is custom for each drive that supports it, as they all work in different ways. Setting ROM as default is the best way. Using Temp settings too much can have long term effects on some drives as the flash rams uses have a limited life span of writes. Its true that Nero can stomp the users choice of bitsttetting modes. However I am sure that it can be set to leave bitsetting as is, goto Choose Recorder under Nero, and then choose Options. Bitsetting options for Nero should be there, and you should be able to set it not to keep setting to ROM.

Thanks, With dvdinfo, I've set my dvd nec2500 to default -ROM booktype. Dvd info also tell me that I can make another 499 changes before the flash memory stops working. Since it works fine now, there's no need to do so.
In Nero the booktype option you mentioned, was not there. But after having set it in dvdinfo to -rom ev'ry works fine.
Perhaps nice for some people to know,
I changed firmware from an OEM version of Fujitsu-Siemens to Mad-dog hacked firmware version 1.08v3-2 using a special flash tool. http://www.herrie.org/utilflash.html
Now I'm able to burn double layer dvd's and of course RPC1, and bitsetting.
