I use Nero 5.0 to burn audio CDs from a music collection on my PC hard drive. The CDs will run in nearly all play-back equipement except for an old Sony Discman. Some run in the Discman and some don't. Other burned CDs from friends seem to work fine. I must be missing something about the burn settings or the type disc I am using.

Anyone have any advice on correcting this problem?

probably the problem here is the used media and your old disc man?
