Hi All,

Seems like a good forum with knowledgable people, can anyone offer advice for this problem?

I have just bought a Philips PBDV1640G, which my computer (Win XP sp2) detects as a 1640P and I can't write DVD's,

I can write CD's no problem but every time I try to back up some data Nero (ver 6.6.0.1) goes through the motions and right at the very end it pauses for a long time and says write operation failed, it says in the information window that it "could not perform end of disc-at-once"

A friend has told me to upgrade my firmware but after reading a few threads here it appears that I have the latest version 2.5 already.

For information, I have tried to write a DVD ISO which I assume is a data dvd?

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Actually, the latest firmware is 3.4, available at

http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=DVDR1640K/00&scy=DE&slg=DEU&searchtxt=1640

-->software und Treiber --> dvdr1640k_00_fus_eng.zip

There is also included a very useful crosstable with suitable disc types/writing speeds.

hi,

i recently updated to the 3.2 firmware and still I have no joy in writing DVDs.

Is there any difference between the label showing 1640G and windows showing 1640P?

Should I still be having this problem as the version of nero I have is fairly new?

I am using, what I believe to be good quality "Datawrite" dvds and cannot get anywhere.

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

I would suggest to try upgrade your Nero from 6.6.0.1 to latest which is 6.6.0.6

You may find the release notes here

As far as I know, 1640 is 1640 is 1640. The letter at the end marks only differences in selling/packaging (bulk, retail, with or without software, philips DVD's etc.)

Hi there, I also have the same drive (pbdv1640b) it cannot read disks will not write dvd's but does burn cd's fine. I am just about to pack it back up and send it back to the company I bought it from It has cost me a small fortune in disks of which I have sucessfully burned two (I have purchased 35) in total. I am just about to try the suggestions posted on here and will get back to you guys.
