While P-CAV avoids visible steps, writing discontinuities, and is faster overall, it brings back the problem that CD-RW drives had to solve, of working with a continually sliding strategy. It should be easier to produce lower error rates with zone-CLV than with P-CAV. You would be surprised now, to see a CD-RW drive that wasn't P-CAV (or even fully CAV at max speed) Another firmware issue - in several reviews, it's been mentioned that the popular Mediatek chipset for DVD writers supports Mt. Rainier, but, unless I've missed one, we have yet to see the makers bother to implement it.
