Please help me: Nec 6500A 203e

I have a Dell laptop with an NEC 6500A which, after much reading, I flashed to the latest 203e firmware. (I don't really understand all this... but I did accomplish this.)

Still, after the firmware update, I get the same message : can not perform disc-at-once
when I try to burn to dvd -r (I have both Memorex and Maxell, 16x blanks... both result with same error)

Until recently, I had no problems with the dvd burner. I know nothing about the settings, etc.
