Samsung Introduces SAS-interface SSD

Samsung has begun mass producing a new, high-performance SAS-interface solid state drive (SSD) using 10-nanometer (nm) class MLC NAND flash memory.

Designed for the enterprise storage market, the new SM1623 SAS SSD is succeeding the older SAS SM1625 SSD model and has a capacity of 800GB. Compared with the SM1625, which was based on 20nm-class NAND flash, the new 10nm-class SAS SSD delivers the same level of performance while improving productivity by more than 30 percent, Samsung claims. It also supports more than a drive write per day (DWPD).

The SM1623 delivers random read and write speeds of up to 120,000 and 26,000 IOPS (Input/Output Operations per Second) respectively. Its sequential read and write speeds are up to 950 and 520 megabytes per second (MB/s).
