Nintendo Denies Rumors Of New Hardware Coming at E3

The first rumors of a new Nintendo console have appeared online but Nintendo has denied them.

The speculation started over US site IGN during a recent edition of its Nintendo Voice Chat podcast. The hosts of the show exepressed their skepticism and hopes that Nintendo will show new hardware at the June event, without naming their sources.

VideoGamer also chimed in with further speculation originating from inside an unnamed game publisher. The site went a step further adding that even palyable games compatible with the new gaming device will appear at the show, linking the rumor to a January chat about a refreshed handheld and home console duo, the Fusion DS and Fusion Terminal.

Nintendo responded quick to shoot down the rumor.

"I can confirm Nintendo is not revealing any hardware at this year's E3," a Nintendo UK spokesperson told Nintendo Life.

During Nintendo's investors meeting in January 30, CEO Satoru Iwata had closed his presentation with a section on Nintendo's long-term plan of creating "a new platform business" that "improves people's quality of life in enjoyable ways," taking the theme of health as its first step and investigating "'non-wearable' technology."

He mentioned plans for a single handheld and home game console software architecture, new games that would take advantage of the GamePad and also "account-based relationships" among Nintendo users.

Nintendo will hold an event from E3 at 9 a.m. PST on Tuesday, June 10.
