Sony Is Opening Up SmartWatch To Developers

Sony's Open SmartWatch Project will make it possible for developers to create and flash alternative firmware to Sony SmartWatch, by sharing technical details and instructions.

Developers have been able to create apps for the SmartWatch using the Sony Add-on SDK for quite some time already, however, with the Open SmartWatch project, Sony is opening up the device even more. If you?re an advanced developer, you can now take control of SmartWatch as a hardware peripheral in new ways by creating and flashing your own alternative firmware.

Sony's SmartWatch is running on Android and has a 1.3-inch screen with a 128 x 128 pixel resolution. On the screen users can obviously tell time buy also read email, text messages and calendar reminders. It is also integrated with social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

The device works with a number of smartphones from Sony, HTC and Samsung.

Wearable computers and smart watches have been in the spotlight recently, with reports that Apple, Google and Samsung are all working on products.
