Samsung Now Producing SSD for Servers and Data Centers

Samsung is now supplying its solid state drive (SSD), the SM843T, for use in high-performance servers and storage in next-generation data centers, including Big Data systems.

The SM843T has a SATA interface and it is offering up to 960 gigabytes (GB) of memory storage.

Samsung claims that enterprise servers in data centers with SM843T SSDs on board have a performance gain of 6 times and energy savings of 30 percent over the widely-used hard disk drives.

In addition, the SM843T protects the most recent data being processed from a sudden power interruption, for enhanced system reliability. Along with this power loss protection and Samsung's dedication to optimized systems, solutions and software technology, also referred as "3S Technology," the SM843T achieves the highest QoS (Quality of Service) level required by global cloud service providers and financial institutions.

The new Samsung SM843T line-up is reaching up to 98,000 (sustained) random read IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second) and 20,000 sequential TBW (Terabytes Written) with the 960GB model.

According to IHS iSuppli, the global SSD market is expected to reach approximately USD 10 billion in revenues by the end of 2013, a 43 percent increase over the previous year, led by sales of enterprise SSDs which it expects will account for approximately 47 percent of the market in 2013.
