China's largest search engine Baidu Inc.is added to the list of companies that mimic Google's Glass project and plan to deliver digital eyewear.
The "Baidu Eye" project leverages Baidu's strengths in image search and facial recognition, Baidu said on Wednesday. The device will be mounted on a headset with a small LCD screen and will allow users to make image and voice searches as well as conduct facial recognition matches.
The Chinese company added the glasses were being tested internally but did not clarify whether they will be ever be commercialized.
Wearable technology is the latest trend followed by many firms, including Google, Apple, Samsung aqnd LG. Devices such as smart watches of digital eyewhere have been designed to allow users stay connected without being tethered to a desktop, laptop or tablet.
