First Haswell Motherboards Appear At CeBIT

Motherboard vendors have on display new motherboards based on the upcoming Intel's 8-series "Lynx Point" chipsets and the Haswell processors.

Biostar has on display at CeBIT the "Hi-Fi Z87W" and the "Hi-Fi Z87X 3D" ATX motherboard based on the Intel Z87 chipset, as well as the Intel H87 "Hi-Fi H87S3" and the "Hi-Fi B85S3" (Intel B85) microATX motherboards.

ASRock is showcasing the micro ATX "IMB-380L" and boards based on the Intel Q87 chipset, the "Z87 Pro4-M", "Z87 Extreme6" and the "H87 Pro4" ATX motherboards based on the Intel Z87 solution.

Planned for an official announcement at this June's Computex show in Taipei, Intel's 4th Generation Core processors codenamed "Haswell" will be available for desktops, mobile devices and ultrabooks.

The new desktop versions of the processors will be built in the LGA1150 package, and will be accompanied by Intel's 8-series chipsets (Z87, H87, H81, Q87, Q85, B85). According to leaked specifications, the desktop Haswell processors will include Core i7 and i5 series in quad-core and dual-core variations (2.70GHz ~ 3.50GHz base clock + turbo clock), packed with the Intel HD 4600 integrated graphics (1.10GHz ~ 1.25GHz).

The CPU supports two channels of DDR3 memory clocked at up to 1600MHz. Other important features include Hyper-Threading, Turbo Boost, Advanced Vector Extensions 2 or AVX 2.0 as well as AES-NI instructions improvements.

In addition, the fourth generation Intel Core processors will support a Fully Integrated Voltage Regulator (FIVR) on their die in order to better control the power received by each piece inside the die.
