Dutch Court Orders ISPs To Block Pirate Bay

The District Court of The Hague , Netherlands ordered Internet providers KPN, UPC, T-Mobile and Tele2 to block the The Pirate Bay website.

Dutch ISPs will face fines unless they obey the court's order. However, ISPs will appeal, arguing it isn't their responsibility to act as censors.

The case was brought to court by Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN, which claims that The Pirate Bay had been used to upload copyrighted material without permission.

This is the second ruling in the Netherlands with regard to blocking this particular file-sharing site, as earlier this year the same court had taken similar action against ISPs Ziggo and XS4ALL.

Britain's High Court issued a similar judgment last month, forcing local ISPs to block the popular web site.
