Philips Unveils New TV and Blu-ray Products

At its annual winter media event held today ion Barcelona, Spain, Philips introduced its 2011 range of 3D LED TVs and Blu-ray players.

Philips offers users the choice of both active and passive 3D TV solutions. The company puts these products under the "3D Max" and the "Easy 3D" labels.

3D Max is included in all of Philips? top-end performance products: the 9000 series Smart LED TVs, 8000 series Smart LED TVs, and Cinema 21:9 Platinum series. Easy 3D TVs are based on passive 3D technology, they are using affordable and lightweight 3D glasses and they are further enhanced by Philips Ambilight, which projects harmonized ambient lighting onto the walls behind the TV.

Easy 3D is available in the 7000 series Smart LED TV and the new Cinema 21:9 Gold series Smart LED TV.

With its full HD resolution, 180-degree viewing angle and minimal crosstalk, 3D Max packs Philips' latest 3D technology. Available in the Philips 8000 and 9000 series Smart LED TVs and Cinema 21:9 Platinum series, 3D Max builds on the first 3D introduction by Philips last year and delivers 3D TVs which are fully equipped and ready to display premium 3D movie releases in high-definition 3D. The 3D Max TVs are using active 3D technology and the latest-generation high-speed display. A high-powered 3D transmitter is integrated into the frame of the TV which communicates with as many Active 3D glasses.

3D Max TVs feature Philips' Perfect Natural Motion?s processing power, which has doubled to two billion pixels per second since last year's models, to offer sharp and perfectly fluid motion. 3D Max also features 3D depth adjustment controls which enable users to customize the level of their 3D experience.

This year, Philips is also introducing real-time 2D-to-3D conversion in selected 3D TVs (3D Max). Philips uses sophisticated software to deliver high-quality conversion, ensuring that subtitles are shown at a constant depth and that there are no errors such as parts of the background appearing in the foreground.

Available on the new Philips 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000 and Cinema 21:9 Platinum and Gold series TVs, the "SmartTV" feature makes these models media portals that can hook users up with online content; stream music, photos and videos from tablets, smart phone or laptop; and store programs and movies on hard drive on demand.

With Smart TV users can easily access a gallery of online apps. These will connect them to virtual movie rental stores for instant movie-nights, enable them to share experiences with family and friends via Facebook (available soon) or Twitter, let them control their TV using their smart phone or tablet, and help them manage their content.

Philips' Smart TV enables Philips TVs to communicate with all of WiFi-enabled gadgets, including phones, laptops, tablets and home computers. It can play any file that a PC can play, thanks to SongBird and its completely up-to-date set of codecs for reading all file types without fuss. Also thanks to Smart TV?s WiFi capability, it can stream audio and visual content from the net.

Multiview allows viewing of multiple content sources at once so users can watch a TV program and keep up with the latest sports results via Net TV.

The Smart TV concept also offers easy control. Whether users want to browse online content, scroll through their locally stored files or just change the channel, they have a range of choices in how they interface with their Philips TV. Users can, of course, use their remote control ? but they can also use their smart phone (iOS or Android) or tablet with the Philips smart phone App, or even use a wireless keyboard to navigate through various menus or enter text.

All Philips Smart TVs have Net TV, an interactive on-screen platform for selecting programs and accessing apps. Net TV also connects users with online video stores. Net TV offers video stores by Videoland, VideoFutur, Film2Home as well as iConcerts and Cartoon Network.

Thos who have missed their favorite TV program will be able to use Net TV to visit their favorite broadcaster's Catch-up TV app and browse for TV shows whenever they want to watch them. Available catch-up TV apps include those from ARD, ZDF, Pro7, Sat1, RTL, UitzendingGemist, ARTE, France24, Antena3 and TV3.

Philips? Smart TVs have replaced long lists of channels and shows with the Electronic Program Guide (EPG), an overview of what?s on that helps users decide what to watch. With Picture-in-Picture viewing, users can continue watching TV while browsing the Program Guide. The Smart USB Recording feature means users can pause even live TV while they answer the phone or fix a snack. The Smart TV records digital broadcast content onto users' external hard drive.

Cinema 21:9 Gold series Smart LED TV

Philips is making the cinema experience available to a broader audience by expanding its range with the Cinema 21:9 Gold series Smart LED TV. Following the launch of the Cinema 21:9 Platinum series last year, the world?s first cinema proportion 3D TV, the new Cinema 21:9 Gold series TV is expected to make every night a premiere at home.

The Cinema 21:9 Gold is the first Philips TV to include Easy 3D. Based on passive 3D technology and it uses affordable, lightweight glasses. The company's new range of TVs Philips allows users to connect to online content; stream music, photos and videos from a tablet, smart phone or laptop; and store programs and movies on demand (Philips Smart TV)



Philips' new 9000 series Smart LED TV

Philips's 2011 TV range is led by the new 9000 series Smart LED TV. Philips claims that the 9000 series has the fastest response time on the market, and can create the blackest blacks and brightest whites. Ambilight also virtually expands the screen in three directions.

The full HD resolution 9000 series of TVs feature an 180-degree viewing angle, active 3D technology, real-time 2D to 3D conversion and the Philips 9000 series features the 2010 Perfect Pixel HD Engine. The 9000 series also comes with Full HD LED Pro, which consumes 40% less energy than LCD screens, and can render 2,250 trillion colors. For perfect clarity and motion sharpness, the 9000 series has a 400Hz Clear LCD screen and a 0.5 millisecond response time.



The 9000 series also comes with the 40W soundstage, which has two full range high power speakers. As a "Smart TV" it offers increased network and connectivity options.

Additional product features include a 100Hz clear LCD screen with a response time of 2ms, Wi-Fi internet, smart USB recording and Philips Ambilight Spectra 2 technology.

Philips 2011 range of Blu-ray players

Philips also reveals its 2011 range of Blu-ray players, spearheaded by the introduction of the new 7000 and 5000 series Blu-ray players. Both players feature Philips? latest development in the field of connected entertainment: Philips Smart TV.

The range is complemented by a new 3000 series Blu-ray player, offering the latest YouTube innovation for TV. The range is headed by the high-end 9000 series Blu-ray player introduced at IFA 2010.

The new 7000 series Blu-ray player with Smart TV features Philips? proprietary CinemaPerfect HD engine for high Blu-ray quality and upscaling of DVD and other sources. The fully Blu-ray 3D capable also features full 7.1 decoding and multichannel output of all HD audio formats.



The build-in WiFi-n connection and the Smart TV feature deliver a large selection of apps including video on demand offerings, smart phone remote control app support and easy content sharing at home via DLNA.

Its smaller brother, the 5000 series Philips Blu-ray player with Smart TV comes with the same combination of Blu-ray 3D and Philips Smart TV, featuring fast Net TV, smart phone remote control app support and easy content sharing in your home via DLNA. For ease of setup it features build-in WiFi-n and is executed in a new slim design which will stylishly fit any room.

The new 3000 series Philips Blu-ray player complements the new range. Next to the high definition quality, it is WiFi-Ready for connecting it to a home network and offers the latest YouTube innovation for TV,

All Philips Blu-ray players in the 2011 range are DivX Plus HD certified.

Philips also introduced a portable Blu-ray player. It comes equipped with an HDMI output, a rechargeable battery that offers three hours of movie playback, a 9" LCD display screen in 16:9 widescreen format and enables users to play a variety of different media from the device including DVD, DivX, MP4, MOV and WMV as well as play back photos, music and video from a USB.

Philips Fidelio Docking Speakers

Philips has merged its SoundSphere and Fidelio innovations in audio, to bring music lovers the ultimate High-Fidelity listening experience. The Philips Fidelio SoundSphere docking speaker combines the functionality of the Fidelio docking speaker range, the sound quality of the Philips SoundSphere speaker and Apple?s AirPlay into one product.

The Philips Fidelio Soundsphere docking speaker utilizes Airplay to play music over a home Wi-Fi network from iTunes on Mac and PC, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.



Philips Fidelio SoundSphere will be available from May 2011 with a recommended retail price of 799 EUR.
