LG Display will reportedly supply its 65-inch and 75-inch LCD TV panels to Samsung Electronics, in the first ever cross purchase between the two South Korean rivals.

Korean etnews.com reports that LG Display is going to supply 65-inch, 75-inch, and 32-inch LCD TV panels to Samsung Electronics' VD Business Department sometime during this month.

"We decided to supply 65-inch and 75-inch panels starting from end of this month and we are discussing about amount of supplies of these panels," a representative for LG Display said. "We are discussing ways to stabilize supply of products from a medium and long-term partnership rather than just treating this cross purchase as a temporary purchase."

The denmand for 65-inch and bigger TVs is expected to grow in 2018, and Samsung obviously neeeds to ensure stable supply sources of LCD panels.

Samsung's plan is to dominate the large-screen TV market aand position its larger-than-70inch - QLED TVs against OLED TVs, which are sized at 55-65 inches.

Late last year, Sharp notified Samsung that it would stop supplying the S. Korean company with LCD panels, pushing Samsung to seek for other LCD suppliers, as Samsung Display's production was limited and not focused on production of large LCD panels.

Considering the high quality of LG Display's LCD TV panels, there is a good chance to see Samsung Electronics' 2018 premium QLED TV models to be equipped with LG Display's panels.
