Samsung Display is planning to reduce manufacturing of LCDs for tablets and instead increase the supply amount of OLEDs, as the company identifies demand, mainly from Apple and Samsung Electronics.

Samsung Electronics plans to use OLEDs for tablets and laptops for new models set for release this year. Apple is also considering using OLEDs for its iPads.

Samsung Display will stop operating 5th generation LCD lines and slowly reduce output of 7 to 12-inch LCDs that have been supplied for tablets.

LG Display, Samsung Display, and Sharp have been all supplying LCDs to Apple for its iPads. It is estimated that Samsung Display supplied more than 20 million panels to Apple in first quarter of last year. However during first quarter of this year, the company will supply about 600,000 panels - about 3% of panels that were supplied in first quarter of 2016.

Samsung Electronics is set to release the Android-based 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S3 tablet and the Windows 10 Galaxy Book 10.6-inch and 12-inch 2-in-1 tablets.

Apple is also considering using OLED panels for its iPads.

LENOVO and HP have also equipped their 2-in-1 PCs with OLED panels.
