Message Text: Microsoft will attempt to fight off notebooks running Chrome OS with the help of low-cost notebooks being released in time for the holiday season.

Revealed at the Worldwide Partner Conference 2014 today, Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner claimed a number of notebooks running Windows will directly competing against "Chromebooks," with HP said to be preparing a $199 notebook for sale.

It is also possible to see other similar Windows notebooks coming from other PC makers, though both the 15.6-inch Acer Aspire ES1 and the 11.6-inch Toshiba notebooks are priced at $250, a similar price to existing Chromebook offerings with matching specifications. HP will also launch two other Windows devices for the holidays, with seven-inch and eight-inch versions starting from $99.
