Message Text: On Friday, to kick-off Techweek Miami 2014, Microsoft formally announced plans to open the first U.S.-based Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC) in Miami.

Developed and operated in partnership with Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami, Venture Hive and others, the Miami facility will be used to host technology trainings and workshops to help citizens learn more about technology. It will also provide entrepreneurs, prospective startups and governments access to networking opportunities and potential talent for future job opportunities.

The Miami MIC will also serve as a gateway connecting the U.S. to the Latin America region, providing Latin American industries and businesses access to a pool of dependable and tech-savvy interns and potential full-time employees.

Currently, there are more than 100 MICs serving over 80 communities worldwide, including countries like Singapore, Uganda and Greece.

Microsoft plans to open many more MICs across the U.S. in the coming year, including one located in the Washington, D.C., area.
