Message Text: Japan Display Inc. today announced the start of mass production of a Memory-In-Pixel (MIP) reflective-type LCD module which realizes ultra-low power consumption.

The display consumes very low power making it suitable for wearable devices. In addition, a newly-developed scattering layer contributes to bright reflective-type images.

The new reflective-type display does not require a backligh as it shows images by reflecting light instead. This contributes to a low power consumption, which is 80% of the typical consumption of an LCD module. Furthermore, the MIP structure can keep screen images in the static random access memory transistor fabricated in each sub-pixel. A new scattering layer also optimizes the panel's optical design, and enables the production of a paper-like display.
