Message Text: Samsung on Monday said a 110-inch 4K TV is going on sale for about $150,000 in South Korea.

The huge TV, model 110S9, features an LCD display panel and not an OLED one, as manufacturing bigger TVs using OLED proves too costly.

Last year, Samsung and rival LG Electronics touted OLED as the future of TV. But both failed to make OLED TVs a mainstream that would replace the LCD television sets and still struggling to mass produce larger and affordable TVs with OLED. Meanwhile, Japanese media reported last week that Sony and Panasonic decided to end their OLED partnership and focus on 4K TVs.

Demand for UHD TVs is expected to rise despite dearth of content while its price will likely come down faster than that of the OLED TVs.

Chinese TV makers are trying to boost sales of UHD TVs with a lower price and a smaller size. On the other hand, Samsung's strategy is to go bigger with a higher price tag.

Samsung's 110-inch U-HD TV measures 2.6 meters by 1.8 meters. Samsung?s technologies such as the Quadmatic Picture Engine promises to provide "unrivalled picture quality" on 110S9?s 110-inch UHD screen, bringing to life its 800-megapixel display.

The 110S9 will be available in China, the Middle East and Europe. In South Korea, the TV is priced at 160 million won ($152,000) while prices in other countries vary.

Samsung and LG will also showcase their new generation of Ultra HD TVs, including 105-inch curved models, at CES 2014 next week.
