Taiwan-based OEM firm Compal Communications has reportedly received orders by Nokia to make a new Lumia smartphone model, with shipments set to begin in the third quarter.
Nokia is expected to launch the new Lumia 1020 smartphone with a 41-megapixel camera in New York, US, in July 2013. However, Nokia also plans to introduce entry-level and mid-range Lumia smartphones, which would be partially made by Compal, according to Digitimes.com. The Taiwanese company has already cooperated with Nokia on the Lumia 800, Lumia 610, and Lumia 510 that adopted Windows Phone 7.5 and 7.8.
According to Ray Chen, chairman of Compal Communications, the Windows Phone platform has yet to show strong growth but market share is increasing. He predicts Windows Phone market share to increase to above 5% at the end of 2013. |
