Message Text: LG Electronics and Qualcomm announced that the successor to the LG Optimus will utilize Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. Capable of carrier aggregation, the Snapdragon 800 processor is designed to allow LTE to be even faster by maximizing spectrum bandwidth to increase data speeds and reduce latency.

"With a powerful combination of LG's core smartphone technologies and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, we are taking a significant step forward in the mobile experience," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "The result of this collaboration will in many ways be the industry's best smartphone by which all other devices will be measured."

Delivering up to 75 percent better performance than the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, the Snapdragon 800 processor features higher speeds with Krait 400 CPUs (2.3 GHz ) in quad configuration. Its a SMP (asynchronous Symmetric Multiprocessing) architecture supports dynamic power sensing and control for peak performance per core and improved battery life without the use of specialized cores. Integrated connectivity includes 4G LTE Advanced Carrier Aggregation, while the new Adreno 330 GPU delivers more than two times better performance for compute applications over the current Adreno 320 GPU.

The Snapdragon 800 processor also supports video capture, playback and display in Ultra HD format along with HD multichannel audio with DTS-HD and Dolby Digital Plus, supporting higher display resolutions up to 2560 x 2048 pixels and Miracast 1080p HD. Last but not least, Qualcomm IZat Location technology features GNSS for more accurate navigation and location services.

Qualcomm Expands Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 Processor Tier

In related news, Qualcomm introduced six new processors meant for entry-level phones in China and emerging markets.

The company's entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processors are featuring dual- and quad-core CPUs. They are manufactured on a 28nm process technology and feature key modem technologies that are important in China and emerging regions, including support for HSPA+ (up to 21Mbps) and TD-SCDMA. It is anticipated that the new processors (8x10 and 8x12), along with its Qualcomm Reference Design counterparts, will be available in late 2013.

The processors will have support for dual cameras, with an 8 Megapixel rear-facing camera and up to a 5 Megapixel front-facing one, as well as feature a single platform for all SIM variants, including Dual SIM, Dual Standby, and Dual SIM, Dual Active, and Tri SIM Tri Standby. The latest additions to the Snapdragon 200 class also feature: Adreno 302 GPU; integrated IZat Location functionality and support of Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0; support for the latest Android, Windows Phone and Firefox operating systems; RxD support; and a single, multimode modem.

China is the world's largest smartphone market in the world, making it a crucial country for Qualcomm to expand in. But the company faces competition from Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek, which has also been targeting the Chinese market with new mobile processors.
