Samsung said on Monday it will use Intel processors to
power a new version of one of its GALAXY Tab 3 Android
tablets, a major victory for the U.S. chipmaker, which
is struggling to find its footing in the mobile market.
Samsung unveiled the GALAXY Tab 3 8-inch and 10.1-inch,
which will be available globally beginning of June.
Samsung has previously used chips designed with
technology from the ARM Holdings for its high-end mobile
devices.
The Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 8-inch has been designed to be
held in one hand for viewing videos, playing games, and
reading e-Books. Samsung's "reading mode" technology
optimizes the display to deliver perfect illumination
and tone for comfortable paperlike readability in a
variety of lighting conditions.
Samsung's Sound Alive is responsible for audio while
Dolby Surround enhances the video playback audio
experience.
Also, the physical keys on the bezel at bottom give
users a comfortable smartphone-like experience in
navigating.
The GALAXY Tab 3 8-inch also features S Translator,
which provides instant translation through voice
recognition and via text on applications including
email, text message, and ChatON. This instant translation
is possible both from speech-to-text and text-to-speech.
Companion also provides real-time local information in
need for travel along with user's travel paths.
Samsung says it has built the Samsung GALAXY Tab 3
10.1-inch to be the leading 10-inch tablet in the
market.
Stacked with the Intel Atom Z2560 processor ("Clover Trail+"), the
GALAXY Tab 3 10.1-inch has been designed for everyday
family use and multimedia consumption.
Additionally, the Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 10.1-inch tablet comes equipped with Intel's XMM 6262 3G modem solution or Intel's XMM 7160 4G LTE solution.
Intel's XMM 7160 multimode-multiband LTE modem supports 15 LTE bands simultaneously and also includes a highly configurable RF architecture, running real-time algorithms for envelope tracking and antenna tuning, that enables cost-efficient multiband configurations, extended battery life and global LTE roaming in a single SKU.
The tablet is equipped with Smart Remote and MHL (TV
Out) capabilities, so it can be used either as a gaming
device or as a home media control device.
