Message Text: Acer will launch more affordable tablets later this year, following the strong demand for its 7-inch Iconia B1 (US$169) in Taiwan, a senior company executive said Monday.

The company will launch similar tablets in sizes of 8 and 10 inches this year, said Scott Lin, Acer's senior vice president and president of its Greater China operations.

The devices are scheduled to hit the market by the third quarter of 2013.

The company's first small tablet, the Iconia B1, features a 1.2 GHz dual-core microprocessor by MediaTek Inc. and it is estimated to reach monthly shipments of 400,000 units globally, Lin said.

Regarding its notebook business, the company posted strong sales of notebooks using Google?s Chrome platform after the release of Microsoft?s Windows 8 failed to ignite the market.

Acer will not release any Windows RT devices before the back-to-school season this summer, as the company is still evaluating the platform.
