Message Text: SEGA on Thursday acquired all of shares of THQ Canada Inc. and some IPs owned by THQ Inc., a parent company of THQ Canada, reinforcing its PC game development capabilities in the U.S. and European regions.

The Sega acquisition was made possible by the bankruptcy of THQ and the subsequent sale of most of its assets earlier this week. Sega bid US$26.6 million for Relic, beating out Zenimax Media's bid of $26.3 million, according to a court document filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

SEGA said it also acquired other intellectual property owned by THQ, but didn't specify.

THQ Canada has developed million-seller franchise titles such as "Warhammer 40k Dawn of War" and "Company of Heroes" under the brand of Relic Entertainment Studio. The "Warhammer 40k Dawn of War" has sold more than 7 million copies worldwide, while the "Company of Heroes" series, has sold more than 4 million copies worldwide.

Relic Entertainment was established in 1997 and acquired by THQ Canada in 2004.

SEGA already owns three development companies in the U.S. and Europe. Through the acqusitions, the company plans to expand its game lineup for PC (online,) smartphones and social networks.
