Showa Denko Group (SDK) decided to increase the hard disk (HD) media production capacity at its fully-owned subsidiary Showa Denko HD Singapore Pte.Ltd (SHDS).
The company will install a clean room and additional produstion lines by the end of this year.
SDK is also planning to have SHDS'two plants integrated into one this Fall to increase oroduction efficiency. In addition, SDK will reform production lines at its HD media production sites in Japan and Taiwan to further increase productivity. The construction and reform work will be completed by March 2011, the company said. As a result, the Showa Denko Group's total HD media production capacity will be increased to 25 million disks a month as from April 2011, from 22 million disks a month today. The company's total investments will amount to aproximately 10 billion Yen.
SDK is receiving repidly increasing inquiries from HDD manufacturers. Furthermore, the company expects that the global demand for notebook PCs and servers to continue to grow and HD media with higher recording capacity will be required.
