Message Text: Plextor, a company mostly known for its quality optical disc drives, will enter the Solid State Drive (SSD) market next month, pursuing higher profit margins.

Plextor said that it would offer its first 2.5" SATA II SSD drives in capacities of 64GB and 128GB. Besides the obvious advantages of the SSD drives compared to HDD (basically speed and shock resistance), Plextor's SSD will be equipped with the "Wear Leveling algorithm" to prevent degradation of drive performance. The technology actually Plextor's implementation of the Trim instruction that is also featured on premium solid-state drives from other SSD makers.

Plextor also added that its SSDs are also strong in performance rating when the drives are in the so-called 'Dirty State' (heavily used state). Based on PCMark, SYSMark benchmark tests, Plextor SSDs were the only drives that maintained the same level of performance regardless whether the drives were clean or dirty, according to Plextor's tests.
