The current DVD Format/Logo License will expire on December 31, 2014 and the DVD Foormat/Logo Licensing Corporation (DVD FLLC) has informed companies that plan to continue the manufacturing DVD products beyond that date to obtain a new DVD Format/Logo License.

The new License Program will go into operation from January 1, 2015 and will expire on December 31, 2019. The License fee would be JPY1,100,000 per one product category, the same as the current License.

A draft of the new License Agreement will be available on the DVD FLLC website in the summer of 2014. The Application Form for the new License will be available on DVD FLLC website from October 2014.

The DVD Format/Logo License is needed by replicators of pre-recorded DVD discs, manufacturers of writable DVD discs, manufacturers of DVD players, recorders, drives, decoders and PC recording and authoring software. Manufacturers of other DVD Products that utilize the information disclosed in the DVD Format Books also have to obtain a license. These include IC Chip makers and authoring tools for professional use, etc.
