Samsung's Smartwatch May Be Called 'GEAR'

Samsung's highly rumored smartwatch device could be called "GEAR". according to a trademark filing dated June 27.

The filing at the US Patent and Trademark office desrobed GEAR as a clock, wristwatch, bracelet and many more definitions. However, the Identification section of the filing GEAR devices are is described as "watches that communicate data to personal digital assistants, smartphones, table PCs, PDA, and personal computers through internet websites and other computer and electronic communications networks."

A few days ago, trademark filings in Russia, Mexico, Colombia, Turkey, Japan and Taiwan for the term 'iWatch' made by Apple have hinted of a similar device coming from Cupertino.

Qualcomm has also recently applied for the 'TOQ,' which, according to the accompanying description, is also a smartwatch.

LG, Intel and Acer have also confirmed that they are working on wearable devices, while Google and Microsoft are poised also to enter the wrist-worn computing sector.
