Acer Releases The Aspire P3 Ultrabook, Aspire R7, V5 and V7 Series Notebooks

Acer today debuted the Acer Aspire P3 Ultrabook, the Aspire V5 and V7 as well as the R7 series of notebooks. Details of the companys's first 8-inch Windows 8 tablet also emerged online.

The Acer Aspire P3 Ultrabook easily transforms into tablet-mode. Weighing 3.06 pounds and measuring 0.77-inches thin, the mobile PC delivers on the promise of Ultrabooks with high performance and long battery life in a portable form factor. It adds the many benefits of tablet with a design that allows the touch-screen display to be used freely or in the keyboard-case.

The Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processors deliver the performance needed while providing more efficient power consumption for longer battery life of up to six hours. Closing the case puts the Acer Aspire P3 into sleep mode, and opening it wakes up the device in only a few seconds. Since it runs Windows 8, it can handle Office programs as well as legacy Windows programs that are important for many businesses.

The chiclet keyboard built into the cover is full-sized, so users can comfortably use it for writing documents and creating spreadsheets. The Acer Aspire P3 comes with an optional stylus that fits in the case for customers who want the convenience of pen-based input. Plus, it comes with a full-sized USB 3.0 port.

The Acer Aspire P3 has a 11.6-inch HD display with IPS technology and 170-degree viewing angles. Dolby Home Theater boosts sound for headphones as well as built-in speakers. Audio and video on the Acer P3 can be shared with additional displays via its HDMI port. The built-in Acer Crystal Eye HD webcam captures video in 720p HD, while the 5MP back camera captures photos in high resolution. The new Ultrabook features a 60 GB or 120 GB SSD.

The Acer Aspire P3 is available immediately starting at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $799.99 USD.

The Aspire R7 is a 15.6-inch notebook featuring a Full HD 1920 x 1080 touch screen, a repositioned keyboard and a "Ezel Hinge" that moves the display forward and into different positions.

With four modes of operation, the R7 can be used as a traditional notebook, a table top pad, a display, or switched into "Ezel" mode, allowing the screen to float over the keyboard at various angles. This allows users to work where they want and how they want -- seated or standing, at a desk or with it on their lap. The Ezel Hinge makes it easy to switch the display around, to touch or type while creating, browsing or sharing content. Dual hinge technology allows for single-hand switching between modes and keeps the display rock-steady when touched.

1. Ezel Mode - Reach out and pull the display closer, eliminating the need to reach across the palm rest and keyboard to use the touch screen. Just pull it up and out where it can be positioned in front of the keyboard, or float over it. By pulling the display close, switching between touchscreen, keyboard and touchpad is seamless.

2. Notebook mode - Slide the display back behind the keyboard, and you have a Windows 8 notebook computer with a 15.6-inch Full HD 1920 x 1080 touchscreen display, an Intel Core i5 processor, 6 GB of memory, a 500 GB hard drive, a 24 GB SSD and a full-size backlit keyboard. It also includes a volume control button, HDMI port, SD card reader, audio jacks, three USB ports, WiFi, Bluetooth and a convenient converter port supporting VGA, RJ45 and USB.

3. Display Mode - Flip the screen over and it's positioned for watching a movie, showing photos or giving a presentation.

4. Pad Mode - Simply pull down the touchscreen and lay it on top of the keyboard with the face up, and the Aspire R7 morphs into a pad, without giving up the performance of a notebook. The 4-degree tilting angle makes it perfect for browsing, writing or drawing. I

The R7's features and high-definition display are complemented by a premium sound system with Dolby Home Theater v4 and four 8 watt speakers.

In addition, Acer also relocated the placement of the dual microphones from the traditional notebook layout. Instead of positioning them on the LCD bezel near the webcam, they are placed along the front of the notebook, just under the spacebar.

Best Buy is Acer's exclusive retail partner. The R7-571-6858 has a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of of $999.99 USD. It will be available in stores and online for shipping on May 17th.

At the same press event held today in New York, Acer also unveiled an updated and slimmed down Aspire V5 Series of notebooks and also introduced the Aspire V7 Ultrabook. The new V Series represents Acer's largest and most versatile line of mainstream notebooks with numerous models available in a variety of colors with varying screen sizes, resolutions, with or without touch and with varying performance and graphics capabilities.

Based on performance needs, users can choose models featuring large 15.6-inch displays, more portable 14-inch displays, or highly transportable models with 11.6-inch displays.

All models are available with a choice of touch or non-touch screen. To make typing easier, all V5 models include a full size keyboard with an 8 percent larger key cap area than previous generation V5 notebooks. All notebook configurations with a touch screen will also include backlit keyboards.

The new V5 notebooks featuring a 15.6-inch or 14-inch display are available in either high definition (1366 x 768) or full high-definition (1920 x 1080) with IPS technology. These models also include four speakers and are supported by Dolby Home Theatre for cinematic surround sound with less distortion.

Models are available with the next generation AMD dual core or quad core processors, or the latest Intel CPUs. Select configurations are equipped with NVIDIA GeForce GT7XXM series or AMD Radeon HD8750 discrete graphics for fast casual gaming and rich responsive multimedia.

The smallest Aspire V5 models featuring an 11.6-inch high-definition (1366 x 768) include touch screens. They are just 3 pounds and less than an inch thick and available with the next generation AMD dual core or quad core or the latest Intel CPUs. They also feature a full size keyboard, while backlit keyboards will also be available in some regions.

The new V7 Series Ultrabooks offer the same thin design found on the V5 models, but adds a "silky touch" finish on the bottom. In addition, the V7 models include a variety of the latest Intel processors, solid state drives, Acer Theft Shield, the new Acer converter port and WiDi, Intel's Wireless Display technology.

For maximum convenience, all V5 models include an Acer Converter Port, making it easy to connect to an external display, hard drive, router, etc. Some models include a converter cable, which supports VGA, USB and RJ45 connections.

The Aspire V Series will be available at the end of May. The V Series has a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $499 USD.

Acer 8-inch Windows 8 tablet

Besides the official announcements, details of the first 8-inch Windows 8 tablet have also leked, after Amazon.com published a listing for a new Acer device.

Pictures of Acer?s Iconia W3-810 appeared at TabletGuide.nl a couple weeks ago. Now, thanks to a leak from Amazon, we see a tablet with a 1280x800 touchscreen at 8.1 inches. The device will weigh 1.1 pounds and the claimed average battery life is 8 hours.

The specs also show this device running a 32-bit version of Windows 8 Pro.

Acer is also waiting for the next version of Windows RT, due in the second half of this year, before deciding whether to release a tablet that runs on that OS.

"The plan for an RT tablet is ongoing," said Acer President Jim Wong at a company event in New York.
