WD today unveiled the WD TV Play media player along with the My Book AV-TV, allowing users to enable their TV recording features to store and playback of entertainment by simply connecting the My Book AV-TV drive directly to a compatible TV.

The WD TV Play is a media player that streams Internet channels, as well as personal photos, music and movies from other networked devices in the home, directly to an HDTV.

With the Wi-Fi connected WD TV Play media player, users can stream movies, view the latest viral videos, catch up on TV shows and stay connected to social networks through apps such as YouTube, Netflix, Hulu Plus, VUDU, SlingPlayer, Spotify, Pandora and Facebook, among many others. WD TV Play also lets users enjoy a variety of media they already own, such as photos, music and videos. Users can play content located on any computer or network attached storage that has a DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) server, as well as from any directly connected digital camcorder, camera or USB drive.

WD TV Play's wireless or Ethernet connections support Full-HD 1080p video streaming. The setup process is simple so that users are up and running in minutes. Once connected, users navigate a an app-based user interface to play their entertainment or personalize their home screen with favorite apps. Users can also set their favorite app to automatically play when WD TV Play is turned on.

WD TV Play's new remote control features pre-programmed buttons. Users can also download the free WD TV Remote app to turn their iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or Android compatible mobile device into a remote control. WD TV Remote connects over the home wireless network and works with multiple WD TV media players in the home.

WD TV Play is currently available online at starting at $69.99 USD MSRP. The second device annouced today by WD, the My Book AV-TV, allows users to enable their TV recording features to store and playback hundreds of hours of entertainment by simply connecting the My Book AV-TV drive directly to a compatible TV. Additionally, users watching live TV with the My Book AV-TV connected can press pause and rewind, or fast-forward afterward, to control live TV at their convenience.

My Book AV-TV, available in 1 terabyte (TB) and 2 TB capacities, connects directly to televisions with built-in recording capability. Built with WD GreenPower Technology, the drive inside is engineered for the audio/video market. Additionally, the WD GreenPower Technology is engineered to use less power and stay cool even in a hot entertainment center full of electronics.

The drive's USB 3.0 connection enables multiple HD streaming for simultaneous recording and playback for users that connect their My Book AV-TV to a dual-tuner television. The simultaneous recording feature allows users to record their favorite program while watching a different channel at the same time.
