HGST Releases 1TB, 7200 2.5-inch Mobile Hard Drive

HGST is shipping the first 1TB, 9.5mm, 2.5-inch, 7,200 RPM hard disk drive (HDD) - the new Travelstar HDD.

The new hard disk is available in the HGST Hard Drive Retail Kit as well as in the Touro Mobile Pro USB 3.0 external storage solution for simple add-on storage and backup.

The new hard disks are also available in G-Technology's G-DRIVE mini and G-RAID mini external storage solutions.

The new Travelstar 1TB, 2.5-inch 7,200 RPM hard drive is suited for upgrading notebooks, game consoles, and other personal storage products. This standard 9.5mm drive leverages Advanced Format, which increases the physical sector size from 512 bytes to 4,096 (4K) bytes to improve drive capacities and error correction capabilities. With 7,200 RPM performance, 32MB cache buffer and a 6Gb/SATA interface, the drive delivers the highest 7,200 RPM mobile HDD performance in PCMark Vantage benchmark testing. Other highlights include sixth-generation HDD technology, 1TB capacity, the industry?s highest shock tolerance, a halogen-free design for an eco-friendly footprint, and low power consumption.

The 1TB, 2.5-inch, 7200RPM HGST Travelstar Hard Drive Retail Kit comes complete with step-by-step instructions that allows Microsoft, Apple and Linux systems to tap into the full capacity, power and performance of the 1TB drive. Now available, the 1TB, 2.5-inch, 7200RPM HGST Hard Drive Retail Kit has an MSRP of $99.99.

Both Mac and PC compatible, the Touro Mobile Pro portable external storage solution provides plug-and-play simplicity and a USB 3.0 interface and features a smooth black body. Housing the new HGST Travelstar hard drive, the new 1TB, 7200RPM-based Touro Mobile Pro offers massive storage capacity. In addition, the Touro Mobile Pro solution provides two levels of protection with 3GB of free cloud storage from TouroCloudBackup.com. With local and cloud backup, files are not only safe but available anytime, anywhere from any smartphone or web browser. The 1TB Touro Mobile Pro solution is shipping today with a MSRP of $109.99.

Delivering up to 136MB/s performance, the G-Technology G-DRIVE mini features a sleek compact and durable all-aluminum enclosure and storage capacities up to 1TB using HGST Travelstar 7,200 RPM drives. The G-DRIVE mini offers both USB 3.0 and FireWire 800 connectivity and has an integrated heat-sink for cooling and silent operation. Preformatted for Mac users, the drive works with Apple computer systems right out of the box and is Time Machine ready. An initialization is all it takes to prepare the G-DRIVE mini for use with Windows systems. The new 1TB G-Technology G-DRIVE mini is now available for a suggested retail price of $199.95 for 1TB.

Out of the box, the new G-RAID mini solution is set up in RAID 0 (performance mode), with its two 7,200 RPM drives. The drive supports simultaneous playback of multiple layers of HDV, DVCPRO HD, XDCAM HD and ProRes 422 HQ with leading video editing applications including Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and many more. Using the included software utility, the G-RAID mini can be configured in RAID 1 (protected mode).
