Nokia Updates Transport App For WP8, WP7 and Symbian

Nokia has launched a new version of its Transport application (aka Nokia Transit in North America), which presents directions in a new way.

The most obvious update to Nokia Transport is the improved interface. Nokia has introduced a new segment map that provides a detailed map view for each part of someone's route. By tapping a specific segment of a journey, a map comes up along with a detailled view that lets users easily see where they are and where they need to be. Another tap or swipe collapses the view.

With the new Nokia Transport for Windows Phone, users can also calculate the duration of their trip, by entering enter the date and their departure time in the time picker to view their route options.

The app also introduces an option to display distances in miles or kilometres and whether to display departure times either by actual times (e.g. 2:48pm), or relative times (e.g. now or in 13 minutes).

Nokia Transport for Windows Phone also now makes it easier to find previous destinations and lets users delete their destination history.

The latest version (v 3.0) of the Nokia Transport is available at the Windows Phone Store. For ownwers of Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone 7, Nokia is offering a beta version (v 3.1) at the Nokia Beta Labs.

The beta version of Nokia Transport for Symbian offers a better search function, but most importantly the ability to get coverage update over the air. It is available at the Nokia Beta Labs.

Nokia Transport is available in over 550 cities and 53 countries worldwide. Just check Nokia's city coverage page for additional info.
