Samsung Unveils Windows 8-based ATIV Smart PC

Samsung unveiled on Wednesday its newest model of ATIV devices powered by the upcoming Windows 8.

Powered by Windows 8, the ATIV Smart PCs support touch-based features such as tapping and swiping the 11.6-inch screen to start programs. It comes with a detachable keyboard and Samsung added a digital pen and note-taking software to attract tablet PC buyers.

The device will be available starting Oct. 26 when the Windows 8 is scheduled to be launched. The Smart PC will be run by Windows 8 operating system (OS), and will be shipped with S pen digital stylus.

The Samsung Smart PC will be available in two models, including standard ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro. The former came with Intel's Atom Z2760 processor, 2GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The latter had the better hardware with Intel's Core i5 3317U processor, 4GB RAM and 128 GB SSD for storage.

The standard ATIV Smart PC has an 11.6-inch HD LED panel with a resolution of 1366 x 768, while Pro version has a 11.6-inch full-HD LED display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Samsung Electronics expects 10 percent growth in PC sales by volume this year as it bets on new PCs that are hybrids of laptops and tablets to lift sluggish PC demand.
