Japan Display Inc. (JDI) will start mass-production of 5.0-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) TFT-LCD modules for smartphone applications this October.
JDI's LCD modules are based on technologies including low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) for high resolution, in-plane switching (IPS) for wide viewing angle performance, and thinner backlight design for compact size, among others.
The 5.0-inch full-HD, 443 ppi module is able to display approximately 2.3 times more information as compared to 720HD (720x1280 pixels,) a 1000:1 contrast (typical,) and a luminance of 500cd/m2. It is 1.4mm thick and has a 1.2mm frame.
JDI will demonstrate this product at FPD International 2012, held October 31 through November 2, 2012, in Yokohama, Japan.
