TSMC Fab 12 Phases 4 and 5, and Fab 14 Phases 3 and 4 Receive ISO 50001 Certification

Phases 4 and 5 of TSMC's Fab 12 facility in Hsinchu and Phases 3 and 4 of the conmpany's Fab 14 Facility in Tainan have received ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification.

This milestone comes after TSMC became Taiwan?s first company to meet ISO 50001 standards for a high density computing data center with certification of its Fab 12, Phase 4 data center in November 2011.

The ISO 50001 Energy Management System was established by the International Standards Organization (ISO) Energy Management Committee (ISO/PC242) as an energy management framework for factories and commercial facilities to raise energy efficiency, reduce cost, and lower environmental impact. Fab 12 and Fab 14 are key production centers for TSMC's advanced process technologies. TSMC estimates that Fab 12, Phases 4 and 5 and Fab 15, Phases 3 and 4 will conserve 50 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and eliminate 30,000 tons of carbon emissions per year in 2012 following adoption of ISO 50001 standards.

"As a benchmark for the the industry, TSMC bears a mission to continue strengthening its environmental capabilities, whether in green buildings, green manufacturing, green supply chain, or green data centers," said TSMC Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Dr. Stephen Tso. "This year we have taken another step forward and adopted an international energy management system to serve as a positive force in the industry and do our part for sustainability."
