Olympus Develops Wearable Display Glasses

Olympus has developed the "Meg 4.0" prototype glasses, which can be connected with smartphones and other devices via Bluetooth and display in-hud information without obscuring normal vision.

Through the glasses, the viewer is able to see information at a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and a 10cd/m2 ~ 2,000 cd/m2 broghtness. At the same time, Olympus proprietary optical technology ensures the visibility of both the display and the outside world, the company claims.

The Japanese company has also designed the glasses using lightweight materials and has also kept its power consumption low. Its weight is below 30g and the included batteries can power it for about 8 hours.

Supporting the Bluetooth 2.1 technology, the glasses can be connected to smartphones or other devices. Other technologies include a built-in orientation sensor, which can expand the range of possible applications in combination with GPS.

The prototype is part of the company's research and development efforts in the imaging technology field. Commercialization of the glasses has not yet been decided, Olympus said.
