Facebook Users To Vote On New Privacy Rules

Facebook's latest proposed privacy policy is available online for voting.

The vote is over updates the company announced in May. The proposed changes include new sections explaining how it uses people's information. They open up the possibility for Facebook to start showing people ads on outside websites, targeting the pitches to interests and hobbies that users express on Facebook.

User's voting will be facilitated by an application developed on Facebook Platform by Wildfire, and an independent auditor will examine the vote tabulation to further ensure accurate results, according to Elliot Schrage Facebook Vice President, Communications, Public Policy and Marketing.

"Facebook is committed to being a more transparent, accountable and responsive service provider for our users," Schrage said.

To vote, use this link - https://www.facebook.com/fbsitegovernance/app_130362963766777. Voting starts today and will end on June 8 at 9:00 am (PDT).

Facebook added that it is reviewing the voting process, signaling that it might be time to end it.

"While our participatory mechanisms may change, our commitment to greater transparency, accountability and responsiveness will not. We will explore ways to bring user suggestions and concerns before Facebook's management," Schrage said.
