Gigabyte To Make Logitech's Google TV Devices, Prepares Booktop Tablets

Gigabyte has repoprtedly landed an order for set-top boxes for Google TV.

Gigabyte's general manager Ma Meng-ming confirmed that his firm has actually tapped the supply chain of Google TV with the order for set-top boxes, which will be shipped under Logitech?s name, the Taiwan-based China Economic News reported today.

Google, Intel, Logitech and their partners jointly unveiled Google TV last May. Google TV is an Android software platform for set-top boxes and smart TVs and allowing users to browse websites, build Internet communities, download application software and watch Internet videos through their set-top-box-installed TVs. Besides, the platform also provides wireless accesses to networks and is able to integrate with consumer electronics and smart household appliances. Sony, LG and Samsung have already agreed to have Google TV on its television sets.

Gigabyte's general manager also unveiled the company's plans to explore the growing segment for tablet PCs with its independently developed Booktop, which combines functions of a notebook PC, tablet and desktop and is slated for launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
