I have a Philips DVDR1640 and big problems burning media.
I've bought Hundreds of different DVD+-R and CDRs, but most of them are not recognized from my burner. He always says no media inserted.
Most of them are well known vendors like TDK, Verbatim, Platinum, Princo, Maxell....
Only a very few are recognized for example maxell DVD+R 4x.

The problem is also with CDR!!!
Is there any solution for that problem or any possibility to let the burner not check the media type code
so he burns? (If the quality isn't so good it doesnt matter)
I think the problem is that this burner only burns if he knows the media code.
Any suggestions?

By the way i have Firware 3.2 (latest) and already changed the device to a new (same) one in the store.

Thanks for any help,

Daniel

If it has the problem with CDR media as well as DVD-/+R media then I suspect the burner itself is faulty. If it is under warranty it should be returned for repair or replacement.

Well if the problem still exists, i would say its a problem of the specific drive, its broken, return it back and get another one new

Mine, in your same configuration, is working well.

The only problem I have, is that is not able to read DVDs burned with other burner. It arrive at the same position and fire a CRC error. Tested with different burner and different DVD brand (Princo, Verbatim, SKC, Ritek, etc.). The same disk on standard DVD reader work fine, with a wonderful speed graph.

bye

Hello ziemlichdunkel,

I had the same problem with this drive. I tried in an other computer - same problem, so it was defective. Philips Germany said they had many retrurn drives in january, so there is a possibility you got defective drives twice. I returned it, got my money back and bought a Benq DD DW 1620 instead. This works fine (after a short manipulation with the "record function activated" button in the drive's "properties").
