How do I burn X1 - 1/17/2005 12:56:53 AM

I have a sony dw-d22a (i think thats the model... not 100% sure) and when trying to burn an image with Nero or Alc 120% I can only choose X4.
The media I am using is indeed X4 but a friend of mine using the same media is able to choose X1 and X2.
How can I enable lower speeds as my XBOX is having trouble reading stuff burnt at > X1
Thanks.

Welcome!

This depends on the firmware and the media.

Thanks Iggy :)
Well, since my friend used the same media and was able to burn at X1 I guess it's a firmware issue.
Which should I use?

I haven't this burner, but always I use the latest. However since this model is a LiteOn it is possible your friend to have install a LiteOn firmware instaed of the official Sony. Can you ask him?

I was probably not 100% clear.
My friend is using a different writer (pioneer 104 or something) but the same media type.
What I dont get is why cant I burn at a LOWER speed?!?! I mean I get not being able to burn at a higher speed, that makes sense... but lower? Why do they cap my minimum?

OK, if I am not wrong your drive is an OEM Liteon SOHW-1633S. I would personaly go for such a firmware instead of the official.

Go this the following topic:

If is about LiteOn 1633S, I think you can not write 1x.
Maybe even could, but I did not see that yet.

What about the utility which works with Mediatek drives and can "adjust" the firmware strategies for the media?

Adjusting a firmware to make it burn slower then intended does not usually result in better quality burns...

captaincaveman, i assume you want to burn at 1X cause you need backups to play OK at consoles, well you need to get an older DVD burner that can do 1X, most recent drives cannot do 1X, only 2X

Yes you are correct, but I think it is the only way for such speeds.

I may be a newbie, but I think I have the answer to burning 1X on the 1633s since I have had the same question on my 1633s. Go to My Computer, right click on the 1633 drive, click on properties then on the recording tab and then select 1X where it says fastest. Let me know if that works. I'd like to think that I contributed something!

Hi grizzlybare,
Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't work.
My guess it is only used for windows burning... doesn't do anything for nero and such.
