hey there!

I hava a really big problem with cd and dvd recording and would really appreciate to get some help from you.

BACKGROUND:I have problem both with my previous cd-recorder (lg-ced-8120b) and my new dvd recorder (samsung s-h552b). When I bought my second hard-drive I had to connect my recorder to second ide-port (master), (both hardrives are connected to first ide-port).

Playback works ok, but when I try to record cd/dvd in udma2 mode(using both lg or samsung) my computer crasher during recording. When I use pio mode everything works ok. (I use nero 6.3). Could my motherboard be damaged?? Or maybe its problem with some drivers (I've just installed adaptec aspi, with no result).

Please, if you have any idea what the problem could be, give me some advice,
greets and thanks in advance

Welcome!

Did you check the jumbers position and the cables? Set them to master/slave intead of cable select. Also what cable do you have on your secondary IDE, 40pin or 80pin?

Try with a different burning utility if possible.

Thanks very much for the tips, but in the meantime I've managed to solve the problem:D

I have Ecs K7VZA mainboard and I had 3 years old bios (3.2) . I've flashed it with version 3.4 (which was supposed to solve some problems with DMA mode) and it seems that eveything works now fine:):)

Once more, thanks for reply:)

This probably would be my second question.

Is it an NForce chipset based?

I've checked it and this mainboard has VIA's KT-133 chipset, and the southbridge chipset, which as I've read handles DMA, is VIA VT82C686A.

What about the nForce? Where there any problems with them?

Usually NForce chipsets have DMA problems, try installing the latest available driver pack
