Looks like the bigger brands are finally supporting 90 minutes.
Philips - (Maybe made by Ritek but not shure of this one.)
Mame Golden Dye -(Mitsui)
TDK -(TDK corp)
Funny thing is that these brands mostly use illegal atips.
Still no TY who's screwing up some standards

Define?

Do you mean that the ATIPs are simply out of spec or are they using 972700 or something like that?

from my experience, most 90min/99min CD-Rs use 96m xxs xxf for the ATIP.

I guess that would explain why I haven't run into it I don't have too much experience with Mitsui, other then their 40x 80min Silver/silver stuff, and the info on their webpage.

and Mitsui in New York isn't returning my phone calls

Are you sure Mitsui are actually making the 972700 90minute media?

97:27:00 is an atip code used by many factories. MAM-E uses this atip for there 90 minutes disc's. Still this will not mean that any 90 minutes disc with this atip are made by Mitsui/ MAM-E.
The MAM-E golden dye I have encountered disc's are made inside the MAM-E European factory in France. The same factory as were most European MAM-E disc's come from.

Okay a small update here.
THe Philips/Prime disc disc's are made by Ritek (prime disc = Ritek+ Philips)
MAME Golden dye - The 97:27:00 is linked according to some software to DST. Could be that the use a DST stamper or they could have selected this code themselves. Since this one isn't owned by DST

TDK - TDK coperation so far. This disc is recognized as 90 minutes on some drives with some firmwares. Some drives that can not overburn can burn these completely at least if they can recognize it correct that is.

Is the Mitsui 90 minute media produced to be 90 minutes or are you using software to squeeze an 80 minute CD-R?

what do you mean by squeeze an 80min cd-r to 90min??

a 74min CD-R is basically a 63min CD-R but squeezed. an 80min CD-R is just a 63min CD-R with more squeezing. And a 90min CD-R is still a 63min CD-R with even MORE squeezing.

However, the reason they appear the way they do is becasue of their ATIP Lead-outs. The ATIP lead out is what sets the last possible frame that can be burned to without using overburning. It is possible to go up to about 92min or 93min this way (as you will see with Ritek's 92min media I believe). I don't believe that Mitsui has adopted this technique yet, I believe that it still uses the 80min ATIP leadout and requires overburning to achieve 90min, but I could be wrong, as I have yet to encounter that particular type of 90min media.

Thank you, you have answered my question brilliantly. I was confused about actual disc. I have been thinking that there was a physical difference between the 74 and 80. So that is why I have been trouble wrapping my mind around the 90 minute disc.
