I am Currently running windows 2000 with nero burining rom 5 that came with my Digital Research Technologies 48x16x48 from Best Buy. It worked great for a short time then started getting errors could not finalize cd at the end of the burn then fixation errors started occouring, I have updated the nero up to 5.10 and back to the 5.58 it came with, current running stock 5.58 and keep getting errors. I have completely removed the program and any other cd burning software as i have seen the issues with that posted here too. now i have next to nothing on my machine but divx gdivx powerdvd windows media player 9 and Nero. I do have some functionality now by decreasing the write speed and not finalizing the cd while creating a data cd burning downloaded videos i can ocassionally finish the burn but out of 12 cd's, I have only got 2 to complete the burn at 24x and only one of these is readable this one as several smaller files on it(music videos) and the other that completed with out being readable was a 550mb television show. I see you guys are the definitive experts and have seen recomendations to update firm ware for the drive but that company Digital Research Technologies dosent seem to have a valid website, i have seen that others have bought these types for acer pc but they dont mention the acer model # to search on for the firmware. Can you suggest any thing else i can try to get this thing to burn sucessfully?

hrm, I'm not sure of the legality of burning music videos or television programs...but I guess it is roughly the same as video taping them

Have you tried alternative media? some CD-Rs are just crappy to begin with. Also, make sure that DMA is enabled for you HDD and your CD-RW drive

Yuuuup been there done that.
This is stuff i bought.
tried diffrent media.
I have come to the conclusion Digital Reasarch Technologies is poo.
I have not enabled DMA for the Hard drive, How do you do that?

I would have the Recorder looked at, or at least upgrades it's firmware.

Based on your descriptions, it sounds like the recorder was good for a short period, and then went bad. Could need alignment.
