does Yamaha leaving the CD writer business mean that their brand of CD-Rs and CD-RWs will be discontinued as well?? if so, when will this happen? or has it already???

No Yamaha will continue selling CD-R, CD-RW media, at least at the states!

I'm not sure I'd call DVD+R a "solution" .... too bad they won't make a dual format drive

I'm sure they will make the BEST DVD Writers if they make the DVD WRITERS as good as the CD Writers.

Apologies for arriving at the party so late; I just registered and was searching for info on the best SCSI CD-RW to buy . .

I understand the bottom line here, but I don't follow the logic: Following your success, you EXITING?

It means that Yamaha are quiting while they are at the Top (Where they have been for a lot of Years) and the CDRW Technology has now reached its Peak and Manufacturers are having problems coming out with new writers with new technology and they are quiting while they are in front and don't intend to make new ones and lose money in the process !!!

It's sad that Yamaha won't be supporting the 32x CD-RWs, but then again, they might not EVER really take hold anyways. The only way Yamaha could have really stayed in the battle would be to do what Plextor is doing with its' premium drives, and release some really FUNKY software as well! but this would be very difficult for them to do since both LiteON and Plextor have been doing this for a while, and Yamaha would probably be starting from scratch.

What scares me is the companies that are pushing for 54x writing speeds!!
