The subject says it all. Has the plextor the same problems here as yahama F1 (hence the 24x limit in the new firmware)when ripping audio at full speed? I am trying to decide between the two drives..

I purchased mine yesterday and burned about 50 CDs. Today I've burned maybe 10... I've not heard any type of noise. Of those about 10 or 15 were audio CDs (MP3s converted to .wav) I had on my hard drive. Once I heard a "clunk" when I shut the CD door, but that was one time. Granted I've not used the re-write, which is where the 24x comes in but once. It seemed to work just fine, I think I dumped maybe 400 megs of info to ensure it worked.

I'm a newbie and only had the drive one day, but I'm very impressed with it... nice drive.

Yes, I have the Plextor 48/24/48 USB 2.0 model with turbo boost ....

I did notice that when a CD is not in the drive it will make a "clank" noise... but I read on this forum that is normal.

of course the problem would not be in the buring, but in the audio extraction.

my LiteON 48x12x48x does not have this problem [:p]

Good luck with your LiteOn. One of the most famous "shattered CD" photos on the net was actually taken from a disk blown by a LiteOn. :)
