I bought an Yamaha CRW F1 retail one weak ago.My previous writer yamaha CRW2100E was broken....it didn't read well 6 cd's that were read PERFECT on any CD/CD WRITER non-Yamaha...The service of the company that sold me the writer said it would cost me 50$ to repair it..they said the optical unit was damaged.
So I bought the CRW F1.And after I installed it I had a big surprise...this new writer couldn't read well the cd's too...
The cd's are Traxdata(made by ritek) & eurodata(made by Multi Media Masters Machinery S.A.).They were written by a mitsumi 32x , a philips 16x and a teac 24x.
3 cd's written by the mitsumi aren't read at all....when i try to access them windows tells me to insert a cd in the unit..the other 3 cd's give an read error at the end of the cd's...1-2 files on these 3 cd's aren't read..they are on the end of the CD...
Both writers write perfect.
They don't report any damaged sectors with CD Speed scan disk...only file errors.
Are both writers damaged ... should I send in service this new writer ??
Other cd's are read perfectly ....even other traxdata's & eurodata's ..all the cd's were written at 16x...
So .. what should i DO ?

Well the first thing to do (if you already have not done so ) would to Upgrade the Firmware of your F1 to 1.0f which is the latest version and see if that makes any difference !!!

i had 1.0d firmware..i updated it to 1.0f.. nO CHANGES... do you think both units are damaged ??
there are some cd's that are read with errors on the old yamaha and perfect with the new one..but the rest 6 are read bad on both units...
anyways..90% of the cd's are read perfectly by both units

Well personaly I think it is down to the Media and If you have another Reader I suggest you try and make an image of the faulty CD's with Clone Cd and then burn them with the F1 and see how you go on with that !!!

..10x..I sold the Yamaha CRW2100E and I bought after hard searches an used teac 40x...the teac reads the cd's ...but preetty hard..soo the Media is bad ..

one of the cd's that weren't read at all by the yamahas is read by the teac .. but is FULL Of errors..soo ...

As I said earlier I thought it may be the Media that was faulty but now we know it is the best thing to do is to try and Salvage what you can with another reader. Anyway at least we got to the bottom of the problem !!!

i love YAMAHA . .:p ...long live yamaha .. btw .. do you think i could have any problem writing at 44x on 48x disks who aren't at all expensive ... they are .. 0.33$...bulks..

Well the F1 is a bit picky with cheap Media but it is worth a try !!!

well .. they are made by prodisc and have the same atip with some philips 40x CD-R ... and until now they worked perfect with no errors..

Well I haved used some Prodisc 48X and they zip along at 44x with no problems ( So Far) !!!

someone had the same problem with yamaha F1 .. didn't read well...it seems yamaha really sucks at reading bad media...he exchanged it with a plextor...but i wouldn't too that even if it wouldn't read at all...

The best answer to that is not to use BAD MEDIA then you won't get any problems !!!
