i saw at a greek online shop today PX-716A sold at the price of 125Euro, i don't believe its correct, but..i have to investigate

Test Units for the 716 are out,

The TA feature is similar to the TIA or Time Interval Analysis on Digital scopes. In the Jitter Measurement, the Jitter value is a standard deviation in the sampling window for a specific pit size..When we map Jitter, we see a near Normal distribution around the center of the sampling window. The Jitter value is a standard deviation of the distribution in that window....

The TIA feature shows us the distance between the center of the distribution and the center of the window. Its one thing to have significant jitter. Its another thing to have the jitter distribution not centered. It can be caused by the pits being skewed in one direction. Time Interval Analyzers are very common in the digital communication industry...Apparantly they use the TA measurement in their new Autostrategy feature....Kewl Drive....

This would seem to be delayed as I thought I read the release date in USA was to be 15th of Oct. Maybe I misread something. I am still very interested in seeing a review of this drive.

I have also received a test sample directly from plextor last week. My drive has unfortunately a beta firmware flashed. I have received the new Plextools also. I will burn some discs tomorrow and measure them on CATS. I am very surprised how the results are on well known medias.

It does indeed look like it is measuing T3-T11+T14 pit/land transition and displaying it as a histogram.

However, also this is a drive dependent feature (somewhat) and not a true low level disc measure.

However, it is more low level disc characteristics than DC jitter, something which is very much influenced by the tracking/focus/slicer implementation.

A welcome feature to disc testing, imho.

If I have the firmware 1.00 I will test 8x+R medias from Tayo Yuden, MCC and 3A Media. I will later post the results, perhaps even upload them.

Ken purchased a 716 yeserday and the results he's gotten so far look pretty good as long as he doesn't use the 716 to test with, it seems to report way higher errors then all of his other drives that can work for testing.
It's around NEC or pioneer quality most of the time so not earth shattering or anything compared to other excellent drives. He's still playing with it and things so we'll know more in a bit. Check out the threads on Freaks and I'm sure he'll jump in here too if he hasn't allready today somewhere. Frys in the US has them for 149 right now :)

Well hmmmm, how is the 716a? Ok Id have to say [your Dog and Cat are safe, But not the Goldfish!]

This has the look of very good drive in the making but it does need some fw tweaking and px tools for scanning at this time is a bust.

I also think the power-rec function is way to sensitive, in that it will reduce burn speed from fw set max even though the media could burn at max no problem. I have done a number of tests where 4x at 8x and just 8x will be slowed to 4x and if power-rec is disabled will burn fine at speed and scan clean. So like I said I think power-rec needs to be fixed so for now id disable it.

I want to start some tests comparing the pi/po levels between a CATS and the scans from plextools and k probe. It is time to show the DIFFERENCES that tests like k probe and so on are just approximate values. I hope there are still people who are able to interprete those measurements in a right way.
