8X/16X Burners need DMA (Direct Memory Access) in order to work properly. In order to enable DMA under Win200/WinXP you need to go at:
- Desktop -> My Computer -> Right Click -> Properties -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers -> Primary/Secondary IDE Channel -> Advanced Settings -> Transfer mode -> Select DMA if available!!!
Its suggested to have already installed the motherboard drivers for chipset, usually that way windows enable DMA automatically. VIA/AMD/ATI based motherboards are suggested to install the latest driver packs in order to over come possible problems!
Mission accomplished!

Two bugs exist in WIN XP that can affect DMA settings.
The first deals with how XP will turn off DMA after multiple time-outs or CRC Errors. This one usually occurs when your resumes from sleep mode more than 6times. It happened to me and the best solution is to prevent your hard disk from going into sleep mode more than 6 times when you are logged on. You can do this by adjusting your power management settings accordingly. See KB817472 at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B817472 and

The second is a registry hack that was posted by AngelDeath at the CDFreaks web site. It was the only thing that worked for me. See:

I couldn't keep the DMA-mode, it kept switching back to PIO.
I've solved it by completely remove the Primary or Secondary IDE channel from the Device manager, and let Windows automatically reinstall the correct drivers. The problem was solved for me, then.
